From the village, different places of interest are accessible to the great delight of everybody. The department of Aveyron discloses many rich and varied types of scenery. I am not going to deal with the whole tourist sites of our department : a web site dedicated to them would be necessary ! But I am going to make you discover some pleasant places within a 30 km radius, where the sense of seeing and the sense of smell will be thrilled.

  1. The Lot Valley

  2. L'Aubrac

  3. Le Causse (a lime stone plateau)

  1. La Vallée du lot

Nearby St Côme, Lévinhac and its 19th century castle, Flaujac, which is partly surrounded with a fortified wall, are two hamlets you can walk to. For the walk-lovers or the mountain-bike lovers, six routes for short walks are opened up to satisfy the enthusiasts of these sports.

Built on both sides of th river Lot, Espalion attracts a lots of tourists :

-The "Pont vieux", a twelfth century gothic bridge
-The "vieux palais"
-A museum dedicated to the autonomous scuba -the "Joseph Vaylet" museum devoted to the folk's art and traditions
-The "Rouergue" museum
- The splendid Roman "Chapel of Perse" Overhanging the town, the castle of "Calmont" where in summer, some displays of weapons of war take place.

One of the most beautiful French villages :

-A 16th century castle which is dominated by a high pentagonal dungeon (son and lumière in summer)
-A 15th century church
-A 16th century bridge adorned with iron and with a statue of "St François d'Estaing"
-For the fair of the village (on the 1er sunday of july), the procession of "St Fleuret"

t was built in 1147. Since the last century, the Trappistines have been making a famous chocolate.

  • The castle of Roquelaure - The lava flow

On the way to the castle, a flow of basalt is crossed by a Roman way.

We can make out the village of St Côme, in the middle of the picture, behind the trees.

From the castle of Roquelaure and its 11th century dwelling flanked by three towers, which have been recently restored, we have a very nice viewpoint : we can see the "Lot Valley", "Aubrac" and "St Côme".

2. Le Causse (a lime stone plateau)

The "Causse" is a region situated at the south of the Lot Valley.

  • BOZOULS

Bozouls is famous because of its "hole", a giddy site. The village is built on both craggy sides of a canyon burrowed through the red sandstone by a brook called "Le Dourdou".

2. L'AUBRAC

Altitude : 1000 - 1469 mètres

A landscape, a natural light, some nice smells, and some sensations : this is "Aubrac". Nevertheless, it is very difficult to translate them with words. You have to come here to realise the beauty, the silence, and the solitude that emanate from this place. Presenting the most diversified flora per square meter in Europe. "Aubrac" is one of my favourite places. We can find small lakes, peat bogs, brooks and the "burons" (it's a kind of stone and lauze houses which were used as refuges for the men who made a cheese called "Laguiole").

  • AUBRAC

Altitude : 1300 mètres

"Aubrac" is also a small village. There is an old "dômerie" which is a dind of "Abbey-Hospital" on the way to St Jacques de Compostelle. And over the years, it has become a shelter for the traveller. You can also visit botanical gardens showing you the flora of "Aubrac".

  • LAGUIOLE

Altitude : 900 mètres

Laguiole was one of the fortified towns of the "Rouergue". The village is famous because of its knives, its cheese but also because of its gastronomy with Michel Bras, the famous cook (three stars in the Michelin guide).

What you should visit :

-a knife manufacture
- a cheese factory
-the "Haut-Rouergue" ethnographic museum
- the village square and its bronze bull depicting the Aubrac breed -the bovine species).
